Here we have another Brooks Running Shoe; only the Gts 16 runs a little on the small side so you may want to order a size up. Brooks has also updated their absorption system with what the brand calls a Progressive Diagonal Rollbar, which is very similar to the guidance impact system you’ll find in the ASICS shoe. It is lightweight so it will be easy and comfortable to wear and it has increased wear resistance on the side to compensate for the tendency of flat footed people to rub them against the ground in different places.

The Advantages of the Product

Much like the 14 that came before it the Brooks Men’s Adrenaline Gts 16 Running Shoe has all the basic necessities you could want in a shoe, plus this one has some added features too. The Progressive Diagonal Rollbar is a support structure that is designed to keep your foot aligned with the rest of your shoe. This corrects the over compensation of over pronation as well as ensuring your feet are staying in line with the cushioning and curve of the shoe from the heel forward. The lightweight material gives your feet very little resistance in movement, so you’ll feel like you are running on clouds rather than pavement.

The Disadvantages of the Product

Once again, like others, unfortunately this shoe runs small (get it, runs) – so be sure to order a size up. The width seems to be average, so there shouldn’t be any issues if your feet are a little wide. While it does run small, if you order your correct size, the performance isn’t affected whatsoever.

There is nothing truly spectacular as it comes with all the basics you would expect, but every so often I like to give the underdog a shot and here it is.

When it comes to comfort with severe pronation this is the little shoe that could. It has a flexible padded upper to make sure the top of your foot stays comfortable and friction free. In doing so, the user’s performance is supreme and has quite a few added benefits when it comes to the comfort.

The Advantages of the Product

There are several advantages this shoe has to offer those with over pronation. The first is the padded upper we would expect of almost any running shoe. This is important for diminishing the risk of friction and discomfort on the top of your foot. It also features the flexible sole, which is necessary for your heel and midsole to rise from your toes while running. Without this you would have to lift your whole foot in one motion, this allows for running on your toes like you should. And, of course it has the extra cushion needed to prevent swelling and discomfort for flat feet when running.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find anything that talks about heel support, which may or may not be a deal breaker for some. Other than the aforementioned, this is a great option for those with flat feet looking for a comfortable shoe for their morning run.

Breakdown of the Features

In the aforementioned section, we see some features we have come to expect with this New Balance shoe. It has the flexible toe curve on the rubber sole and a lot of extra cushioning throughout the rest of the sole. It is made of a lightweight material and medically approved for over pronation. Having a lightweight material goes far beyond the latter, and provides more of a glide while running. If you think you won’t have enough support with this, you’re wrong, as the overall construction of the shoe provides optimal support for the entire foot, but most importantly: the heel. Beyond this, the impact absorbing cushion is superior in performance.

The Advantages of the Product

The cloth used for the upper is soft and flexible so you will be able to move your foot freely without having to worry about friction. The rubber sole has the extra cushion needed for your flat feet to stay comfortable during your exercise routine, but this shoe is also low to the ground. They manage this by increasing the bounce in the rubber so the cushion and comfort can remain the same with a diminished drop to the shoe. It also has a support system in the midsole for additional comfort and to keep your heel and toes aligned. We have seen this so far in the heel and not the midsole, but functions similarly.

The Disadvantages of the Product

The only downside to this shoe is the guidance support being in the midsole rather than the heel, as we are used to seeing so far. If you are used to the support structure in the heel these may feel a little different as the heel will be lacking a certain degree of firmness. Though ultimately, there is no difference between which method is used to guide your foot from heel to toe, they are both equally effective.

Best Running Shoes for Flat Feet…The Final Verdict

We have seen a lot of great shoes here today, but there can only ever be one that we call “the best.” Ok, I guess there could actually be multiple products you could label as “the best” depending on what metric you choose to use, but in this case, there is only one because I am critical and this isn’t your fifth-grade jamboree where everyone gets a prize. And the winner is…

ASICS Men’s GEL-Kayano 22 Running Shoe, because I said so. Also, because it is a really great product and I believe it has the best features to help alleviate the pain and swelling that occurs due to over pronation. No matter what each brand calls their support system it does seem like the IGS has a leg up (ok, last one) on the competition.
